ALI Thrift Shop
Assisteens can work in the ALI Thrift Shop where they get hands-on training from
Assistance League of Irvine members. Assisteens can work on the sales floor helping customers or in the backroom preparing items for sale. Assisteens and parents can also help tag clothing on Tuesday mornings.
Baby Layettes
Assisteens make blankets for babies in the Kaiser Permanente Irvine NICU through our Baby Layettes philanthropy. Assisteens purchase the fabric, measure, iron and sew the blankets. More than 150 blankets are made each year.
Beach Cleanup
Every September Assisteens participate in the annual California Coastal Cleanup Day sponsored by OC Coastkeepers. Assisteens can also volunteer during the year to pick up trash at local beaches around Orange County.
Farm and Food Lab
Assisteens help plant, weed, and harvest vegetables and fruit which will be
transported to a local food bank. They learn about agriculture while helping those who are lacking in fresh produce and live with food insecurity.
Food for Families
Each Assisteens class is responsible for making a Thanksgiving basket and, in December, providing a gift basket for a family in-need through Families Forward. Assisteens can also volunteer at the Families Forward warehouse helping to stock the food pantry.
Assisteens help sort and package food for families with food insecurities at the Second Harvest
Food Bank.
Senior Services
Assisteens volunteer at Irvine Adult Day Health Services Center and make goodiebags and seasonal decorations for Sunridge Assisted Living residents.
Help the Homeless
Help the Homeless is a philanthropy through our relationship with HomeAid OC.
Assisteens donate diapers for families at risk and participate in the Builders for Babies countywide diaper drive.
IVC Food Pantry
Working from a shopping list prepared by IVC staff, Assisteens shop for and deliver food to the campus Food Resource Center where we also help stock the shelves.
Krafts for Kids
Assisteens create craft kits to provide opportunity for parent-child bonding while
families are housed at the Human Options Shelter.
Library Craft Day
Assisteens volunteer at the University Park Library where we help young children with seasonal arts-and-crafts projects developed by Assisteens.
Community Outreach
OC
Parks
Assisteens can volunteer with OC Parks to help with habitat restoration projects in local areas. Projects involve removing invasive plants, planting native plants, mulching
or weeding.
Operation School Bell®
Operation School Bell is Assistance League of Irvine’s largest philanthropy serving nearly 800 children annually from Irvine families in-need. In addition to school clothing and backpacks, children also receive school suppliesand hygiene kits purchased and assembled by Assisteens.
RMH Breakfast Cafe
Through the RMH Breakfast Café philanthropy, Assisteens make and serve breakfast to the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House ® in Orange while their children are receiving lifesaving care at CHOC.
